Kalani Aata
Gender: Male
Orientation:
Age: 26
Race: Half deity/half human
Occupation:
Personality: Charming and personable, Kalani seems to have inherited his personality from his father rather than his far more dour mother. He is suspicious of the supernatural, yet his desire to learn more about himself keeps him from ever straying far from it. He naturally assumes any supernatural being is trying to use him, but he is also trying to use them. As long as he comes out ahead overall, he is willing to play the game.
History: The son of the Polynesian trickster god, Maui, and a human woman, Kalani has never quite figured out his place in the world. Born in Tahiti to a single mother, he did not find out about his powers until he was seventeen, when he had a run-in with a powerful UnSeelie fae Lord. After falling to the fae's geas, he spent five torturous months enslaved by the fae before he managed to trick his captor into releasing the geas. At the same time, he accidentally got the fae to agree to give him a small part of his power, which allowed his escape and showed him his ability.
After his escape, he set out to discover how he had come by his abilities. With little to go on save for his recently-gained knowledge of fae, he spent several years trying to discover who his father was. During that time, he tricked others into giving him pieces of their abilities, allowing him to grow stronger and be better able to survive in the strange world he had found himself in.
Looks:
Powers: Kalani has the ability to absorb the powers (to a greater or lesser extent) of any other being, so long as he can get them to agree to it. This is usually done by trickery, since very few people would willingly give over their powers. Once he has said powers, he does not lose them, so he can continue to grow more powerful over time.
