Yweska
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight
Age:
Race: 'Shadow Weaver', Syresokor ('balance')
Occupation:
Looks: (Click on the picture to open a larger version). Yweska is a bit taller than most humans. Her hair is long and straight with a large silvery white streak amid the black. Her eyebrows are opposite, with the one on her left hand side being black, and the one on the right being white. She wears it mostly loose. One eye is black and the other is white. Her skin is silvery white with true silver markings. Extremely long, pointed ears hold multiple piercings. Her face is very narrow and angular.
Personality: To people not accustomed to the 'shadow weavers', Yweska can present quite a difficult puzzle to figure out. The duality of their nature extends into their personality, as well, and Yweska is no exception. To a human, it would likely seem as though she has no consistency of personality. However, it does follow certain patterns. Most of the time, she seems fairly cool and dispassionate. However, she is fully as emotional--if not more so--than any human. She is just much better at blending her emotions into ambience. If she experiences a single strong emotion, however, it can seem to appear in an instant. Internally, it may have been building up, but it would appear as though she suddenly just snapped and changed personalities.
Powers: As the human name given to her race suggests, she manipulates shadows. What the humans often do not notice, however, is that she also manipulates light. Without light, there can be no shadow, and without shadow, light it meaningless. She can merge into either shadow or light, though there is always a small portion of the opposite left when she does so. For example, if she disappears into a patch of light, there will be a small portion of her shadow left. It takes a keen eye to notice it, but it does prevent her from being able to just disappear and escape entirely. If she merges in part or in whole with an object's shadow, she can move the object by moving its shadow. It is basically the reverse of shadow puppetry, where the shadow creates the actions of the object, rather than the other way around. If she merges in part or in whole with a patch of light, she can create dazzling distractions such as bright flashes of light. When she partially merges with both shadow and light, she can create patterns of light and dark can fool the eye. Therefore, other than the shadow manipulation, much of her magic is based on illusionary techniques. If she manages to fully merge with a person's shadow, she can control their action to an extent. This takes some time, so unless a person is entirely unaware of what she is doing, it is easy to avoid by simply not holding still. If she is in pure darkness or pure light with no shadows at all, her powers an ineffective.
History: Shadow weavers are quite likely where the concepts of yin and yang and the middle way originated. They are a balance of light and dark, and they have a true duality.
